I just recently found out what kwe kia theng actually is: a traditional Teochew dish made with braised pork, tofu, and various innards, served in a rich herbal broth. To be honest, I was pretty skeptical at first. I wasn't sure if I’d like it. I was worried it might be too gamey, have a weird texture, or just taste... off. You know how it is with dishes that use innards, either you love it, or it’s just not your thing. But to my surprise, it was so good. The broth was deep and flavorful, with a comforting herbal taste that wasn’t overpowering. The meat was tender and even the innards (something I usually avoid) were really well-prepared and clean-tasting. No strange smell or aftertaste at all.
